The Nyahera-Mkendwa Water Supply Scheme is a pumped water scheme designed to serve a population of 31,000 people in South East Ward, Kisumu West Sub-County. The scheme, draws its water from Nyahera-Mkendwa springs and has a treatment plant with a capacity to deliver 960m3/day.
During the launch, the Governor of Kisumu County applauded KIWASCO for its remarkable effort in supplying clean water to Kisumu residents emphasizing the importance of clean potable water to human hygiene. He also urged the community to work together with the company by ensuring that water installations like the pipes are protected against theft and vandalism. ”As this would lead to loss of revenue and hence interrupt water supply services” he continued.
.Salmon Orimba CEC, Water , Climate Change, Enviroment and Natural Resources, reiterated the Governor and urged the community to take it upon themselves to ensure no water goes to waste by repairing burst and leaking pipes in good time.
He added that the County Government in collaboration with KIWASCO and other partners will continue to work together to ensure both urban and rural areas are supplied with water 24/7. This project will operate under GULF Water and seeks to support the Sustainable Development Goal number 6 – Clean water and sanitation whose first three targets relates to drinking water supply and sanitation.
